Established in 1931, GIA is a nonprofit organization that promotes a deeper understanding of gemstones in the trade and the public through education, research, laboratory services and instrument development.
GIA standardized the evaluation of diamonds through creating the 4Cs of diamond quality (Color, Cut, Clarity, Carat Weight) and the GIA International Diamond Grading System™, which is recognized globally as the standard for diamond quality. The Institute is dedicated to ensuring the public trust in gems and jewelry by upholding the highest standards of integrity, academics, science and professionalism.
Founded in 1973 as Hoge Raad voor Diamant, HRD issues certificates for diamonds and gemstones primarily in Europe. HRD is headquartered in Antwerp, Belgium and its chief shareholder is the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC). Not generally regarded as a legitimate alternative in the United States, HRD still claims to be the authority for diamond grading in the world.
Over the years, we’ve experienced incredible inconsistency with HRD grading.
An HRD Antwerp grading report represents the hallmark of authentic European quality and provides consumers with confidence and peace of mind when purchasing diamonds or jewellery. Our diamond laboratories in Antwerp (HQ), Mumbai and Istanbul use the most sophisticated technology and rely on the extensive expertise of our in-house research department.
HRD Antwerp also develops and commercializes screening, examination and manufacturing equipment for the benefit of the diamond industry and trade around the globe. Likewise, we organize international courses in various industry disciplines, create tailor-made programmes and offer individual coaching.
Next to its diamond labs, HRD Antwerp also has representative offices Dubai, Hong Kong, Madrid, Ramat Gan, Shanghai and Surat.
